I think we have all been lied to. Let me explain, first, with questions.
How often do you say "hi!" to your neighbor?
When was the last thing you complimented a stranger?
Have you ever comforted a stranger in need?
When was the last time you prayed for someone you did not know?
When was the last time you struck up a meaningful conversation with someone new?
How often do you judge people solely based on their appearance or attitude without further investigation?
Perhaps you know where this is going. When we were little, we were told not to talk to strangers. That is understandable. We steered clear of people who were different than us as a protective measure- but I ask, have we taken this too far? This, I think, is where we have been lied to. We are constantly told that people are scary, can't be trusted, that we all must look out for number 1, etc. all in the name of protecting ourselves. Fear of each other continues to breed more fear until, maybe, we can't even trust our families members. Instead of relying on our neighbors and community, we look to institutions. The very institutions that encourage fear amongst ourselves. Disease, hunger, homelessness- monickers given to create fear and pity, but no real help.
In this day and age, I believe whole heartily that our only hope for survival IS each other. Meaningful relationships, random acts of kindness, selfless giving, and the destruction of fear amongst ourselves. WE, PEOPLE, can be touched, seen, cared for, heard, and loved. Social Security, medicare, EPA, FDA, these institutions cannot be. Institutions such as these continue to instill fear in all of us so that they can gain power for powers sake while undermining our very basic need for companionship from right below us.
It is love that has been undermined from us. Companionship. Help. God. All of these things have been demonized in a humanistic attempt to bring everyone under a "structured" social control. I just want to encourage everyone to reach out to the hurting, and don't let them have to rely on such institutions. Warming a cold world doesn't happen by speech, but through actions. We have only to fear the wrath of God, not each other.
Goodnight everyone!
